Does anyone know the origin of the word, "Chinese puzzle"?
Also, is it true that Europians and Americans' image of China is "mysterious"?
And that is related to the word's meaning?
I know the difinition, like "a very intricate puzzle" or "something very difficult or complex." But I don't know the origin of this word. I searched Internet and dictionaries, though, I couldn't find even one single paragraph mentioned about the origin.
Please help me.

My guess is that it was an actual "toy", some kind of intricate, probably wooden, puzzle. But.. only a guess.

I make no claims as to the reliability of the site referenced.
