What type of mother is this?

A mother duck makes her nest on a downtown Spokane office building ledge. This will be the second time a mother duck has made her nest at the bank. Last year, mama took her ducklings on their first trip to the river. But employees feared the 10-foot leap would be deadly. A loan officer caught them as they jumped, then gathered the brood in a box and walked to Riverfront Park with mama close by.

Hopefully they will be able to save these babies again!

the 10 feet won't hurt them, but the surface below the ledge is probably not soft, padded forest floor..... What's below? Parking lot?

It is concrete - what happen last year was the momma duck flew down and quacked at the babies. The first baby jumped and just laid there - then one of the workers that noticed this out the window ran outside. He began catching all the babies as they jumped. The little one that landed on the concrete seemed to come to while he was catching the others.

Another worker got quite a few snapshots of all this - you can find it on snopes.com
Not sure as if he survived - one of the last pictures of the momma with the duckies in the pond has one less baby (maybe just not in the shot - but it was not explained).
