Kazakhstan’s nuclear bank offer - a great mistake?
Earlier this month Kazakhstan’s president Nazarbaev offered to build a nuclear fuel bank on its territory. How commendable! But let us not forget that such bank will attract terrorists who wouldn’t neglect an opportunity to attack it and spoil enough uranium to make several dozens of nuclear dirty bombs or intimidate the whole world with a sabotage against the nuclear bank. Sure thing, knowing the scale of threat, it will be NATO troops to guard the nuclear bank, or perhaps military bases of some western states will be deployed in Kazakhstan, or at least it will be some guarding agencies to protect the bank from eventual attack of terrorists. Whatever it be, Kazakhstan will lose its sovereignty! Added to everything else, Kazakhstan will upset good relations with that country’s best partner, which is Russia. So can it be that Kazakhstan’s authority is making a terrible mistake? No doubt it does.
