Similes abound in popular song, metaphors are harder to find.

Also, many metaphors allude to the sexual, and so are presumably not suitable for a school project.
(eg. "You been a good old wagon, daddy but you done broke down")

I can't think of any good examples right now.

Why is that a criterion? Use a song whose lyrics they don't know. Surprise them with your researching skills.
