IM NOT EMO!

I'm constantly pestered by my friends about listening to 'Emo' music. and its seriously pissing me off, im not going to lie.

EMO is when people sing about slitting wrists and death. EMO is when bands play dreary guitar music and cry.

Has anyone else been called emo because they listen tobands like Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age or anything that has a guitar riff in it? People now are obsessed with popular, mainstream music, and anything that isnt in the charts isnt good.

Its bloody annoying!

No, it's big bird people sometimes mistake for an ostrich.

My son makes fun of my daughter all the time because she listens to Evanescence and Good Charlotte - and he says she's so EMO - and I do think those bands fit that bill - but not Nirvana - no way.
I listen to Nivana - and I'm not Emo.

Isn't that the bird who fired from his radio show for making some comment about a woman's basketball team?

I have the same problem! but different music. I'm into something with a beat, a good techno mix.. i don't like all hearty and meaningful. And i get called emo for it! All my friends listen to mainstream and bands like secondhand Serenade, and i get called "emo" all the time because i listen to techno. It's crap.

and why do you care if you yourself know it's crap? laugh about it and move on, or perhaps find friends who don't seek to insult you for choice of music?

when it comes to musical classification i believe andy partridge said it best

This is Pop?
XTC

In a milk bar and feeling lost
Drinking sodas as cold as frost
Someone leans in my direction
Quizzing on my juke-box selection
What do you call that noise
That you put on?

This is pop
Yeah Yeah

This is!

On a walkway and moving fast
All I get is transistor blast
Someone leans in my direction
Quizzing on my station selection
What do you call that noise
That you put on?

This is pop
Yeah yeah

This is!

We come the wrong way
We come the long way
We play the songs much too loud

This is pop
Yeah yeah

I don't know. Is Emo something you are born with, or is it a lifestyle choice?

(Next thing you know, they will want to get married).

Emo guys here where those tight skinny jeans and have girlie haircuts and listen to crappy music. Nirvana isn't emo, I don't even know what bands actually are emo. I think it's more of a style, just a new dumb word for people to use. I think emo, is short for emotional.

you guys obviously dont know what emo is do you?
im emo, and i can say this much, its not necessarily about cutting yourself, or listening to sad music, its a lifestyle choice, where you say "i dont care what everyone thinks, im gonna be me, and thats all that matters" so basically, you could call it the new gay, because gay people are proud of what they are, and they have no shame, and they just be themselves. i dont think Good Charlotte and Evanscene are emo, they dont have that legendary quality. and neither do Paramore or Linkin Park, which is how i know that i dont listen to emo music.
um, some emos do have black hair, either that or blond, and usually its really big hair like the 5os, and it kinda drapes in your face to tell people to f-off.
most emos wear tight skinny jeans, converses, glasses, studded items, and etc.
pretty much, that sums up that emo isnt about being like everyone else, its about being yourself, and not caring what everyone thinks about that
your welcome

No, actually, it is about being like everyone else, at least everyone else emo. Hence your restrictions on emo attire: "tight skinny jeans, converses, glasses, studded items."

I see little difference in these groups of people. None of them are original, nor do they want to be:

wait a sec, i mean like not being what the other "popular" people want you to be, sometimes emos look like other emos, but thats just their choice, so long as they dont look preppy (most emos hate preppy people)
