Ok, I made it a lot easier to play chess here by adding a chess BBcode using Portable Game Notation.

e.g. notation like this:

Code:[chess]1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. d3 Bc5 5. c3 a6[/chess]

Will display a game like this:

[chess]1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. d3 Bc5 5. c3 a6 6. Nbd2 O-O 7. Bb3 Ba7 8. O-O d6 9. h3 Nh5 10. Re1 Qf6 11. Nf1 Nf4 12. Ng3 g6 13. Be3 h5 14. d4 Nd8 15. d5 Bd7 16. Rc1 a5 17. a3 a4 18. Ba2 Bc5 19. Kh2 g5 20. Nd4 h4 21. Nh5 Qh6 22. Nxf4 gxf4 23. Nf5 Bxf5[/chess]

There you can play back the moves, swap sides of the board, etc.

Robert, I've started a separate thread for this, so we won't disturb the original thread topic.

This is a great setup you've created. Is it possible to lighten the black squares somewhat though, to make it easier to see the black pieces?

I was thinking about the squares looking like THIS, including the board coordinates.

If this is not possible, don't worry about it. As I said before, I can use WinBoard. It's easy enough to copy and paste the move score into WinBoard and play from there.

WinBoard is a free utility

Is there a way to watch people play, see the moves they've made?

I do not know much about this format, Chai. I hope Reyn will explain. If you click on one of the buttons on my graphic: white played one move (Reyn's graphic shows one move for white and one move for black).

Now clicking on this graphic you would see white's response to 1....... Nf6:

I killed a hamster by trying that last post. We need Reyn to explain this.

Yeah, but I'll have to do that when I have some time to find/make custom graphics.

Ok, that was easy enough. It still really needs the board coordinates but that's going to be a lot of work.

I've started a game for anyone to play here: http://able2know.org/topic/130834-1

Yes, if you click the button that says "Show Moves Pane", you will get the entire move score as it unfolds. Robert made this new feature just very recently. It didn't exist before.

Chai, you click one of the buttons below so play advances one move at a time. You can also click it backwards as well.
