log out problems. (Internet explorer, XP)

My problem is this, when i attempt to log off after a session my PC refuses to close down, the screen sometimes goes black but the pc is still running, if i press the reset button the Pc goes into a ten minute checkup then restarts , i can then close it down in the normal way. can anyone help

@Challie,
Sounds like you still have programs or processes running that are having a hard time being shut down.

If you go to your task manager, you can kill the processes one by one , and find out which one is holding up the process.
