Ha! That was pretty funny in a very scary sort of way.

I would have paid the 67 bucks.

And, most frightening of all, don't doubt that there are many people who see this as desirable.

A national ID?? Not the demokkkrats, it would totally ruin all of their vote manufacturing systems. At least so you'd think....

Like the people who want to make it almost impossible to buy a cigarette, or the people who want to control campaign speech near to the time of an election, or the people who want to make it illegal to sell Barbie dolls, or the people who want talk radio to be forced to air liberal opinions to balance their tendency towards conservatism, or, in general, the people who want government to control our lives to a repugnant extent and seem to have no concept of civil liberties. A poster here once said to me that hopefully in the future there would be a policeman on every street corner, and that someday the government would have machines to read our thoughts and re-educate those who are in danger of doing something wrong in the future. Like them.

Then thank heaven for the ACLU! I'll assume you're a member.

Obviously that's a pre-requisite for being concerned about civil rights.
