Craven, I've noticed that several topics don't have a new topic button. The latest one I've discovered is "fun and games." I wanted to post a new thread on "silly science" but have not found a way to do it.

I also wish there was a thread for "science."

Just found another topic thread without a "new topic button": Education & Reference.

These buttons seemed to have disappeared when Craven installed the upgrades last month.

Should we help him by reporting any threads that don't have the "new topic buttons" so he can fix them?

BBB, here's a link to our (relatively) new Science & Math Forum:

Thanks, Max, but why doesn't the science and math category show on my computer screen list of topics?

BBB, "Fun and Games" is a category with several sub-categories; Jokes, Riddles, and Trivia & Word Games. So you can post to any of those three categories, but they all fall UNDER "Fun and Games."

Does that make more sense?

(It's like how "Arts & Entertainment" has the sub-categories Art, Film, Music + Lyrics, etc... If you want to post something about "The Matrix Reloaded", you don't post it under "Arts & Entertainment", you post it under "Film." So "Film" is the one with the "new topic" button.)

BBB,

Sozobe has the answer to your question. Things like "Fun and Games" are not forums, they are categories with forum subsets.

sozobe, thanks, I realize that, but there is no "new topic" button anywhere to be found on the screen under these threads. At least they don't show on my computer. All there is are "reply" buttons, which won't start a new topic.

I think I just figured something out. There are two possible views. One is where you see only the category headers, such as on the home page. Then there is the Forum Index, which is all laid out (headers plus sub-categories):

Oh, sorry, cross posted. I just tested them all and each of the sub-categories under "Fun and Games" had a "new topic" button for me.

That's a general heading for a group of different categories... you have to choose one. "Reference" for example (top of the list).

That's the Reference sub-category. Do you see a "new topics" button on your screen?

Sozobe is right

This page: http://www.able2know.com/a-reference.php

is a page for several forums. There can't be one button to start a new topic.

On that page there are links to "ask a question" next to each forum.

Craven & sozobe
Craven & sozobe, tested again and still no "new topic" button on my screen for those sites and several others I've found over the last month. Most of the threads have the new topic button as well as the reply button, but several sites don't.

Why would it show on your screen and not on mine? I'm really confused. Sad

sozobe, I'm afraid dense me still doesn't understand because I'm not clicking on the general title for a category. I'm clicking on the subcategories under the category titles as you suggested, which I've always done---I think. The URLs I posted should indicate the subcategories I clicked on. They are not the titles, they are the subtitles.

And I still don't find "science and math" category that Max gave me on the list of sub-categories under any category group on my main screen.

I must be being punished for posting so many topics, you sly people.

Sorry to be so inept. Sad
