How Does One Become a Henchman?

In movies, there are always the henchmen that do the dirty work for the big boss. Who then shoots them in cold blood when they bring back news of failure.

First of all, who would WANT to be a henchman? And second, how does one go about becoming one? Do you just walk up to the nearest boss and hand him your resume?

What I wonder is; do henchmen get a regular paycheck, or is it sort of a piecework thing. Do you get paid by the hench, a weekly stipand, or what?

I think you get a cut of the loot.

Like, if Sozobe takes over Ohio, Sozlet gets Cincinnati.

Edit: Considering what I know of that child, perhaps Sozlet takes over Ohio, and Sozobe gets Cincinnati.
