Swimpy asked on the "Obama '08?" thread whether we'd have a party here. I think that's a great idea. I'll be hanging out at home with sozlet and a couple dozen boxes of Kleenex.

The festivities have already started though I haven't found them on TV (just reporters interviewing boring-ish people as the concert goes on somewhere in the background, presumably).

I'm definitely going to be watching the inauguration itself as it happens.

Can't wait!

I'm no fan of any of such or similar - but Mrs Walter already has changed her day (better: evening/night) schedule to miss nothing ...

Well, if we're starting with lattes and champagne (let's make it a great champagne as long as we are doing this right), I'll supply some Nannini dolce, and some Rose cafe croissants, once I do some googleing.

I suppose that should be US sweets, so I'll skip Nannini and look to a bakery in Larkspur, Emporio Rulli... and look at california sparklings.

The Emporio Rulli I like most -

I think my favorite dolci are budini di riso -

These aren't from Rulli, but conger up interest, to me

No photos online that I can find of Rose Cafe croissants, but here are some of David Lebovitz's, which I bet my bippy are very good:

On champagne and sparkling wines -

Great thread idea! I've been watching to CNN coverage this afternoon. And I will watch the actual inauguration on Tuesday at school. Monday I'll see what I can.

Just saw the Urban Prep school of Chicago make an appearence on CNN. They have the following creed (I want to adapt it for my students):

Quote:
The Creed
Building a positive school culture is very important at Urban Prep as it helps promote positive self-esteem and high achievement . One way we foster a positive school culture is by holding our students accountable to live by the Urban Prep Creed which they recite each morning in Community. The Creed was developed by Team UP prior to the opening of the school and it has been embraced by our entire community.

The Urban Prep Creed
We believe.
We are the young men of Urban Prep.
We are college bound.
We are exceptional-not because we say it, but because we work hard at it.
We will not falter in the face of any obstacle placed before us.
We are dedicated, committed and focused.
We never succumb to mediocrity, uncertainty or fear.
We never fail because we never give up.
We make no excuses.
We choose to live honestly, nonviolently and honorably.
We respect ourselves and, in doing so, respect all people.
We have a future for which we are accountable.
We have a responsibility to our families, community and world.
We are our brothers' keepers.
We believe in ourselves.
We believe in each other.
We believe in Urban Prep.
WE BELIEVE.

Sozlet wants to bring something to the A2K party, too. Her contributions:

La comida Americana? Las salchichas son de origen alemán, no? Por otro lado, no sé que es la comida americana en nuestro pais diverso.

Para fiestas en mi casa, comemos tamales!
