The dem vote in this election was barely different from 04. This election was determined by several million pubbies not being able to hold their noses hard enough to vote for John "the Maverick(TM)" McCain and simply not showing up.

Don't get me wrong, I stood in line for the two and a half hours necessary to vote for McCain, but it was basically just voting against dems as usual. I'd have a hard time getting too pissed at anybody who didn't show and you could almost make a case for somebody thinking McCain threw the election deliberately for some reason or other. Worst pubbie candidate and campaign I've ever witnessed.

2004 vote totals:

Republican 62,040,610 50.73%
Democratic 59,028,439 48.27%

2008 vote totals:

Democratic 67,817,076 52.74%
Republican 58,940,447 45.84%

The Dems turned out an additional 8 million people, an almost 14% increase.

The Republicans turned out 4 million less, a decrease of around 6%.

Even if every Republican that voted in 2004, had came and voted this cycle, we still would have kicked your ass.
