1) Your government's imposition of tax on the sale of gasoline.
2) Your lack of any domestic production source.

Gas prices in Ontario are the lowest they've been in 6 years. It was a bit odd getting change from $35 when the gas tank had been just about squeaky dry earlier today.

As promised I filled up today and I payed $1.74 a gallon. I was about empty and I filled up for under $30. $28.53 to be exact.

I printed out a chart of state taxes on sales, gas, cigatettes, and alcholic beverages.
A footnote says the Federal Gas Tax is "...18.4 cpg." The highest taxes are in CA, CT, NY at around $.45/gal. The lowest is Alaska at $.08/gal. Most of the states are clustered in the high teens to low twenties.
A few specific states for A2Kers I could find readily: TX (.20), Missouri (.176), Va (.196), NC (.302), GA (.26), SC (.168) and FL (.332).

while canada produces plenty of oil , our gasoline prices have usually been higher than in the U.S. - anywhere from about 10 - 20 % higher .
of course , our taxes are higher . i don't mind paying higher taxes that contribute to our health care .
personally , i wouldn't mind an increase of 2 - 3 % in our sales taxes to improve our health care .
we all have a choice in electing the governments we want .
even though we now have a conservative federal government , they've been quite clear : they want to make more money available to the provinces for health care - smart move - they might get re-elected .
