Does anyone know about this? I'm using Windows XP 2005.

Just today when I logged in, my computer says it can't find WS2_32.dll and that reinstalling might solve the problem.

I went to Microsoft and downloaded it, but can't get it into the right directory because it says that WS2_32.dll is in use.

I'm in safe mode for the moment.

I've been all over the Internet and downloaded a thingy that didn't work.

I'm out $100 and no solution.

Any ideas?

You may need to go to a DOS prompt in safe mode and manually copy/replace the file

or try this program

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

I have had tons of luck with it.

Rex has a good idea, Dupre, another thing you can try is CCleaner, run the "registry" section after the basic cleanup part, make sure the reg backup box is checked, delete whatever it tells you, restart computer and clean install your missing dll.

Btw, aren't you the Dupre who thought (years and years ago) her dog might have committed suicide? I'm the former "helen of troy" and I thought of that thread when my adored Siberian Husky died, and of some of your comments there... good luck with ccleaner Smile
