Grundig/Eton emergency radio problem!

I have a Grundig/Eton emergency radio. Until recently it played fine. For about the last month around 6 PM I am unable to listen to anything on AM. The whole AM band is nothing but loud static. I have the problem whether I'm using the crank generator or batteries. The problem lasts a few hours. There is no problem with the other bands. Any ideas on what might be the problem? Thanks!

are you saying that at other times (in the morning) you can listen to AM ?
if that is the case , i suspect that it must be outside interference .

see under AM :

Listeners who continue to experience electrical interference to their radio reception may want to contact a local electrician or technician who can recommend a suitable mains filter to reduce the problem.

AM interference can also be caused by nearby powerlines, particularly if they are not regularly maintained. If you think this is the case, contact the local electricity supply authority listed in the White Pages.

I also have a Bose radio which is plugged into the wall. No problem with am on that radio. I figured it was some kind of interference but I don't know how to find out where it is coming from! Thanks!
