To buy or not, that is the question...

Company A - Forced to sell business to make up for bad debt
Company B - Potential Buyer 1
Company C - Potential Buyer 2

I know nothing about potential buyers. If I have money to invest in companies in the same industry, could this appear as insider trading?

Knowing nothing of the situation, there doesn't seem to be a hint of insider trading.

My biggest concern is that I report directly to our CFO who does have knowledge of the buyers (but has not said anything) Once the sale is about to go through, I will very likely be brought in to assist. I will probably know who the buyers are before the announcement is made public.

If it is information not available to the general public then it is insider information. However, if it generally known that this company is going under and there are potential buyers out there, then no it is not insider information.
