Closing remarks from both: I liked Obama's acknowlegment that the US has changed a lot & needs to focus on the opportunities of ordinary people, education, etc .. I wonder why McCain focused on veterans, almost exclusively.

OK that was pretty good!

Did McCain ever look at Obama?

I was happy with how Obama looked straight at McCain as McCain looked down -- looked weak.

Obama (on radio, anyway. Wink ) Sounded more focused & attuned with the times. McCain relied too much on history, soppy patriotism & political connections for credibility, with not all that much new to offer.

Buchanan thinks McCain won 10 to 5.

Started out watching with the fam, then was paying too close of attention to type at the same time.

I'm glad Thomas thought it was a clear Obama win.

E.G. was allergic to McCain's little fake smiles.

Buchanan would.

So far CNN people seem to think it was roughly equal which means Obama won (if he held his own).

I thought the whole debate was a waste of time. Anybody here learn anything new?

Maybe it was good for the folks who do not follow this stuff closely.....but wow, what a waste of 2 hours for me.

[caricature] That's because you don't seem to get it, CI. You've gotta look at my record. Unlike you, I've actually been to Oxford, Mississippi. I have seen debates there, listened to good, strong talking points, and am honored to have been in the presence of the student rhetoricians who made them. When it comes to debating, CI, it's not enough to walk the walk -- you also have to talk the talk. [/caricature]

Seriously, you call this a toss-up? A broken record could have done as good a job as McCain. And, it wouldn't have had his face-control problem.

BBC Radio (which I was listening to) concluded that the debate would have next to no impact of people's voting intentions.

I think it's pretty clear that Obama was the winner tonight. McCain had some good points and was comfortable on foreign policy topics, but didn't shine at any point. And his body language was terrible.

A mere tactical mistake. And unlike you, I know the difference between a tactic and a strategy. Nya nya nya nya nyaaaaaa nya. (Okay, I made this last part up.)
