I can fall asleep
This lonelineess wont let me go
my thoughts drift out to you
I wonder what you're doing at this moment
Cause here tonight the rain is falling down
Will you think of me
When it gets around to you
Half a world away

I wanna be Half A World Away
I wanna be Half A World Away
I wanna be Half A World Away
Aww with you
I wish I had wing so I could fly
Across all these long and lonely miles
But here I am tonite half a world away

In your loving eyes
I see my hearts reflection
You speek to me alone
With a language all our own
when we're together.
And I still feel the touch here in the dark
But holding on to it is the holdest part for me
Wanting you
Half a world away

I wanna be Half A World Away
I wanna be Half A World Away
I wanna be Half A World Away
Awww ... with you

I wish I had wings so I could fly
Across all these long and lonely miles
But here I am tonight
Half a world away
Every letter you write helps me thru one more night
But my dreams feel incomplete
Because the story can't end
Till I hold you again in my arms
In the final scene

Half a world away
I wannna be half a world away
I wanna be Half A World Away
Aww ... with-a-you
I wish I had wongs so I could fly
Across all these long and lonely miles (these looong)
but here i am tonight, half a world away

But here I am tonight, half a world away

Half a world away
This sounds like a song from the late 80s or early 90s that I remember as being Paul Johnson. A Black (British?) singer with a sort of gospel style.

What's the song/singer - Half a world away?
The singer's name is actually Paul Johnson. His voice is really high pitched almost a falsetto. He moved to the UK in 1985 or 1986 and released a 4 track album called "Burnin" and the single "Half the world away". The single may have been a cover. Anyway, he virtually diasappeared after the he did the single. Hence his reference barely exist even on the internet. Kind of funny, we grew up together but his father never confirmed that he did the album or ever spoke about him again. If you want the CD you will need to search UK sites but you will probably only find vinyls. I would like to get a copy if anyone should find a store which has his music.

- Cheers -

Paul Johnson - Half the World Away
A friend of mine brought this CD round yesterday. It is definitely Paul Johnson that sings this. The other tracks on this CD is Don't pass me by and Where can you Be.

Thank you everyone! Smile
I went to Paul Johnson's site, and that IS the song. Listening to it again made me realise what a great song it is. I hope I can get a download of it somehow now.

Thanks Flameweave for the question and everyone for the answers - I too have been looking for this song for the longest time - almost as long as this post has been going lol! Anyway I first heard the album late 80's at a cousins house in Auckland NZ. Then he went to Sydney Australia and I always remembered this particular tune....Now at least I know where to start looking for a copy!

After not having seen my dad for nearly 20years, I took a trip to jamaica in 2003 with some of my sisters, it was a very emotional reunion as you can imagine. When it came time to say our goodbyes and we got into the car to drive away, this song was playing on the radio, it will forever remind me of that time. Sadly my dad passed away on 12th January 2009, and I felt I needed to hear the song again, brings back bitter sweet memories.

Paul Johnson - Half A World Away

I can't fall asleep.
This loneliness won't let me go...
My thoughts reach out to you -
I wonder what you're doing at this moment.
'Cause here tonight the rain is falling down.
Do you think of me when it gets around to you?
Half a world away.

You can check out his MySpace page if you're in doubt.

I think i have the actual song, actually performed by Paul Johnson. It's:

vs.1
I can't fall asleep
this loneliness won't let me go
my thoughts lift up to you
i wonder what your doing at this moment
cause here tonight the rain is falling down
will you think of me when it get's around to you...
half a world away.

Cho:
i wanna be half a world away (rept.x2)
with you...
i wish i had wings that i could fly across all those long and lonely miles
but here i am tonight, half a world away.

vs.2
in your loving eyes, i see my hearts reflection
you speak to me alone
in a language of our own when we're together
and i still feel your touch here in the dark
holding on to it is the hardest part for me
what say you? half a world away.

Rept. chorus

bridge:
every letter you write
helps me through one more night
but my dreams still incomplete
cause this story can't end 'til i hold you again
in my arms in the final scene.
whooooooowhoooooo.....

rept. chorus

P.S Please edit as i am not very sure of all the words.
