Izzy it could be real - I haven't driven that road for what, 3 or 4 years now.

In my personal history Yass is where I reported my car being robbed in the car park of the pub at Gunning (they stole the seat covers, a box of cassettes and a sydney street directory - the would have stolen the wheels but they couldn't figure at the jack, which was mounted under the drivers seat - when they gave up they put in back in the driver's foot well. Such considerate thieves).

Actually I think the pub was called the Telegraph Hotel and Bill and Myrna owned it.

Re: Izzie (Post 3376727)
In a sense they were less criminals than I. I was pissed as a newt. It wasn't till I sat in the drivers seat that I realised the seat covers were gone (Gunning was about -4c that night and the seat covers were sheepskin). I only had to drive to the railway station house about two blocks but in retrospect it's horrifying.

Australia in the early 80s was a different planet. One day in that same pub we were drawn onto the street by a kerfuffle. A regular drinker had tried to drive home and crashed into the bridge and his car hung over the river (about a 20 ft drop). He opened his door after the crash and fell 20 ft to the river bank, unhurtl. The local policeman was in the pub too and turned a blind eye. So it is in country towns.

There is a place I drive by almost every day that makes me grimace.

There is the Miro Cancer Center. And right next door is a funeral home.
