He said, "I like talking to myself, and the microphone gives it a kind of dignity."

I like him too. He writes for Salon sometimes, or used to. I listen to him on NPR often.

He is a national treasure.

We can get his Prairie Companion radio shows over here, and I love his Lake Woebegon books.

I like him too, but don't hear him very often. When I used to, sometimes I'd need to pull over the car and stop and listen.

He does have a very soothing voice -- like molasses, or something. Sometimes he says stuff on his radio show that makes me laugh out loud.

Yes, but I can rarely remember what was so funny.

his books are always enjoyable - no matter how many times i've read them - one of his books often sits on the nighttable .
he doesn't go for belly laughs but makes me smile and nod my head .

I used to quite like listening him on the radio. Can't pick him up here in Toronto. Now I find I can't tolerate his voice.

However, I've discovered that I like his writing. Wobegon Boy is my current beach reading. I've been laughing out loud quite a bit when he gets into the 'growing up Lutheran' parts. It makes me think of home.

I don't hear him on radio these days.

I've read some short pieces in the NYer by him, but, being me, I forget what. (I tend to remember some of Calvin Trillin's pieces better.. expecially the one on tripe.)
