He was a good actor I enjoyed immensely who gave a lot to charity.

I really don't know much more about him, and hope that if he is dying, he doesn't suffer.

I agree. I remember the first time I saw Cool Hand Luke. I was riveted by the story and the great performance of Paul Newman.

Loved the part where he broke out of jail, went out a had a great time -- and sent pics back to his buddies in the pen. Razz

Yeah, that was a sort of important part of the movie, the picture... when it ended up to be a fake, they all had to face that he was just anohter chain gang member, and not what they had built him up to be...

I believe you, Mame. I've seen photos of you.

That was cruel, by the way. Shame on you.

God, whatever I've done, don't strike me blind for another 2 minutes.

Cool Hand Luke and the Sting -- not bad for a salad dressing magnate.

Too bad about the old guy.

Gus, I know that clip represents your idea of poignant. Thank you for that contribution.

I know all the men out there would like to thank Lucille too. Smile

.....!

Not unexpected, as this thread shows, but still got a gasp.

Thanks for the news, first I've seen of it.

I hope he died the way he wanted to.

RIP.

Recently on a thread where we were all listing our childhood 'crushes', Paul Newman's name probably came up more often than anybody. He was a tremendous actor, a loyal husband and father and philanthropist remarkably untainted by the Hollywood glamour mill. There will never be another like him.

Paul Leonard Newman - January 26, 1925 - September 26, 2008.

Nine years ago, at age 74, he definitely still had it:

Three years ago at Age 80 probably 99% of single women and a fair number of married ones would have still dated him:
