Not really... I do all kinds of "art" stuff with her, drawing, painting, but on the level of fairies and such (which she also loves). Plus lots of crafts, making things. (We just made a rockstar bracelet out of shrinky-dinks that she pronounced the coolest thing ever.)
But this was the first fine-art-type thing I have done in front of her, and that was different, for sure. (She seemed especially enthralled at how I reproduced colors from the photo -- "That's EXACTLY THE SAME COLOR!! How did you DO that??")
If you want to get the painting done fast:
Run the photo through Photoshop to give it a watercolor effect (I'm no photoshop expert but know that this can be done in a second with a photoshop feature).
Then paint off of that as a reference. Photoshop will have already done the hardest part of reducing reality to watercolor friendly colors and it could be much easier.
I actually thought of that!
Felt cheat-y though.
(Plus don't currently have Photoshop, though I bet I could find something similar for free or in the tools I do have.)
Plus color is easiest for me -- I was having more problems with consistent scale, stuff like that.
I wrote colors but meant lines and scale and such. In any case, I get the feeling of cheating. Still think final product is all that matters unless you are making a point of learning how to do that step.
