Panic tends to be a toss-up, evolutionarily speaking, though I assume the coin has fallen panic-side up more frequently for it still to be in our repertoire.

However, this may be in question since the rise of the machine age.

The "huge spider on the windscreen" scenario is my most poignant personal example of this.

Flip it off with the wipers, if a windscreen is what I think it is.

Interesting though on the panic side up, regarding evolution. I've several times had the thought than an unreasonable rage might have survived only because other critters might have learned that those two legged beasties are not there to be messed with. After all, most animals learn not to bother skunks and porcupines.

The panic and consequent consequences occur in the bit while one TRIES the wipers to see if the fearsome beast is inside or outside.

Not infrequently, it is INSIDE.

When I first visited this thread there were photos in Nimh's opening post. Now there are only little squares with red x's in them.

Why?

I still see the pictures, when that happens it usually means the site hosting the pictures took them down, is having problems, or blocked the hotlinking.
