I love estate sales. I once got a beautiful antique hutch that came originally from Panama - I still have it.

Boomer, does it look similar to this?

CJ, Hmmm have you had anyone verify the age and country of origin? I'm a little suspicious because of the artificial wear on the finish. If it's really old, it's a Chinese apothecary cabinet. I've seen reproductions using South American lumber, but you would need to have an expert identify the type of wood and construction to be sure. If it was a bargain, you got a nice display piece either way.

This is the real thing that I'm talking about:

No, Green Witch, that's just a picture I had pulled from google to ask
boomer if it looked like hers.

The piece I got from Panama, is a hutch, I didn't supply a photo of that one, but I posted a picture of my red Chinese cabinet I got (on page 2).

Microscope slides! I'll bet that's it. The slots are just about the right thickness for such a use. Plus, with the labeling for various countries.... maybe botanicals or something.

The doohickey is working perfectly for paper storage though.

Suddenly I find myself with lots of storage! I know that probably doesn't sound exciting to anyone but me.

Now all I need is a comfy chair.

Here's the armoire we bought:

It is said to be from Wales and built in the 1790s.
