When something actually does make me laugh out loud, i usually write that i have laughed aloud, rather than using the "texting-script," just to emphasize that i have actually laughed aloud.
Ooh, I'm going to watch out for RIKWYL... *shiver*
I am in perfect agreement with Setanta on the use of LOL; I tried to write my own explanation of how I feel about it, and it turned out to be nothing but a paraphrase of what he said -- so, in short: What he said.
I never laugh and thus have no reason to use the tired acronym LOL. The fact that I did use it at the end of the previous sentence, again, doesn't indicate I am laughing. Rather, I am sitting here quietly and soberly analyzing the recently-skinned carcass of a possum which I have surrounded by candles in preparation of my ritualistic activity of the forthcoming evening.
I use it all the time...come to think of it, it is merely a habit. Use to be I was sniggering out loud a bit I think...now I think it is a polite way of letting others know I am trying to be funny or reassuring others that I think they are entertaining...(not that THAT's a bad thing)
now I will be an even more paranoid poster...great.
[edit:...nah - probably not and I daren't put lol here]
