A 35-year-old Eastern Cape man was strangled with a car's seatbelt at Durban's North Beach over the weekend, police said on Monday.
Inspector Michael Read said the incident took place in the parking lot of the Snake Park on Saturday.
"The man was found in his car and he had been strangled with a seatbelt. Later that afternoon, three men were arrested in connection with the murder," said Read.

Buses sprayed with bullets

A man was shot dead when gunmen allegedly opened fire on buses on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on Tuesday morning, causing the bus drivers to flee, police said.
Ezakhawini police station commissioner Director Marie Wilson said buses had been picking up commuters when occupants of a passing Bantam bakkie allegedly opened fire on them at 5am.
One man died at the scene. Police confirmed the victim was a 49-year-old passenger.
"Minutes after the shooting, bus drivers felt they were not safe and abandoned their buses on the road and fled on foot. At this moment, the buses are blocking two main roads leading into Ezakhawini," said Wilson.
Police suspected that the incident was related to escalating bus fees as a result of fuel hikes.

Commuters torch R20m in buses

Thousands of bus passengers north-east of Pretoria could be stranded this week after 21 Putco buses were set on fire by angry commuters protesting against poor service following the suspension of 17 ticket sellers about two weeks ago.
Irate passengers angered by the shortage of ticket sellers on Monday commandeered several buses and smashed them into each other, barricading the road near the Big Tree shopping mall in Moloto, Mpumalanga, about 50km north-east of the city.
No one was injured but Putco estimates that more than R20-million worth of property was destroyed in the fire whose smoke could be seen as far as 20km away.

Another driver said: "They don't think of tomorrow, only of now so they will suffer for the rest of the week."
Big Tree Spar manager, Frits Christie, said he closed the store because of threats from some commuters. "They said that when they are finished with the buses they would come for the shop."

Cullinan police spokesperson Inspector Johannes Jaftha said police received the call about the violence at about 6am and arrived to find buses already burning.

Thirteen people appeared before the Volksrust magistrate's court on Monday on charges of arson, SABC news reported.
On July 21 four houses in Vukuzakhe were burned down, and one councillor's vehicle and a police vehicle were damaged during the protest by community members.
The residents protested against the municipality for allegedly not consulting with them concerning rate increases.....

Abandoned new-born baby dies

A new-born baby boy has died in hospital after he was found abandoned in Soshanguve on Sunday.
The 2.9kg baby was found wrapped in a towel in a black plastic bag left in the veld near the Hlakanong Primary School in Block L.
A child playing near the veld alerted adults living in the area after hearing the baby crying.

"I was told that a child heard a baby crying. I found the baby boy inside the bag and it looked like he had just been born as he still had traces of blood on his body. The bag was placed near the road. I was shocked at the discovery. I kept on asking how any mother could leave her child like this," said railway police officer George Maluleka.

Baby fighting for its life in hospital

A teenage Transkei pupil on trial for killing her new-born baby last year was arrested at the weekend after her second child was found in a bag minutes after his birth.
Miraculously, the baby survived. Villagers found the wailing tot tied up in a plastic packet.
"I heard a cry like that of a cat only to find that it was a baby inside a Shoprite plastic bag," said Sakhumzi Mkhunqe.
The area next to the plastic bag, which was covered with blood, is a stone's throw from the home of the schoolgirl mother, who lives with her older sister.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested in Kagiso on Thursday for abandoning her new-born baby girl, Gauteng police said.
"The baby was abandoned on Sunday in Hillsview, Kagiso," said Inspector Solomon Sibiya.
He said the baby was already three days old when passers-by spotted her wrapped in a blanket and crying at the side of a road.
"Police were called and then took the baby, who was unharmed, to a place of safety. The mother then came into the police station today to ask for her baby back... she was distraught and could not give us an explanation... we had no choice but to arrest her."
He said abandoning babies had become "the norm" in the Kagiso area.

Some women left them then come back for them, realising that they can obtain social grant money(PamelaRosa: It takes a village of whites to raise a half-devil and half-chimp).
"Why should we give this mother back her baby? This child survived for three days without any care from her, why would she care for her baby now?" Sibiya said.

Pamela Rosa, I'm not going to look through all your posts, but from what I've heard you are a racist South African. Please, don't spread it. I have very South Africn roots, and it is people like you who encourage the stereotype that all South Africans are racist. Stop before you damage our name any more.
