I find it interesting that Jodie Foster, after years of speculation, has finally come out of the closet.
Jodie Foster
Rupert Everett says that she's too old now for anyone to care.
Do you think anyone cares?

Well, it's just a validation to the rumors that were circling
for years already. I think she couldn't have played some
of her leading roles if she was a declared a lesbian back then though.

Didn't I hear something about Oprah Winfrey and Jodie having an affair in the early eighties?

I don't know about that. I have had that picture dancing in my head for the last 10 minutes and I find it highly entertaining and mildly erotic.

No cause for debate there.

Back to CJane, I agree re Jodie Foster's making choices re career some long time ago.

On the world stage, a tad late, but in her world, I can see the choice for international lateness easily. I can see being her. That French academy was close to my high school.

She's a bright woman, may have figured this expose'-ing re timing as the end of one kind of career. Whatever.
She isn't stupid, least re marketing.

You mean, she wouldn't have gotten certain roles. Truely, she could have handled any character or role she wanted.

I've long assumed she was gay. I still don't know what the calculus is -- which movie stars can say they're gay and not have their career adversely affected. Precedent has certainly been dismal, so I'd see why she felt the need. Anne Heche is the latest I can think of and it sure didn't work out well for her, though of course its debatable whether it was about saying she was gay (which was apparently temporary) or whether it was about HER.

Ellen's doing fine in a different medium.

Rosie's been floundering but gave up her show voluntarily.

I still think Tom Cruise will do the 11th hour thing, Siri notwithstanding. (When he stops being A-list, he'll make the revelation and then get another burst of attention and maybe do some serious movie with a gay character.)

I look forward to the day that the world takes care of other people with as much emotion as we use to shun gay people.

Who cares who is sleeping with who?

That is not why we pay to see movies.
That is not why we watch tv ( unless it is between the characters IN the show..)

I never did understand the obsession with gay people. . Why they are shunned, ignored, teased, or given odd rights that others are not.
We are all people no matter who we screw...
I reallllly just dont get it.

I sorta think making declarations about being gay is like a heterosexual holding a press conference to detail their sexual positions or something. They don't owe anyone that information, imo.

The pressure (to come out) from the gay community is pretty daunting. I think gayness is a net plus for actors...I was thinking the Anne Heche thing was because she was an opportunistic wacko. I don't think she is gay---I think she was a user.

I'm lovin the gays meeself. Very Happy

So what else is new? Seems to me that I knew that Jodie was gay years ago. It made absolutely no difference to me. She is a fine actress, and that is the only concern that I have with reference to her.

It's information that fives me a clearer view of the person, that's all. Much like if she'd revealed that she was an incest survivor or someone with a 9th degree black belt in aikido - I don't try to process it much further.

Wow. Seems like alot of you found this little tidbit as interesting as I did.

IMO, Jodie is a terrific actress and I think CJ is absolutely correct about the roles she would not have been offered if that fact had been known.
