Described as one of the best-kept secrets of WWII, the Bell XP-59 Aiacomet was the first jet-propelled airplane in the United States.

The Bell XP-59 made its initial flight on October 1 1942. The British Gloster E28/39 jet had its maiden flight on 15 May 1941. The first-ever true jet plane, the German Heinkel He 178 first flew on August 27, 1939.

The history of these flights make me wonder if they were what people saw when they were reporting UFOs?
