Mondegreen is from a poem (eek, I can't recall the title). The real line is something like the death of Lord so-and-so and they laid him on the green.

And someone, some time ago, heard it as the death of Lord so-and-so and Lady Mondegreen.

Quote:
What is the etymology of "MondeGreen"?

Writer Sylvia Wright listened to a Scottish ballad called The Bonny Earl of Murray which she thought included this line: "They hae slay the Earl of Murray, and Lady Mondegreen." Later she learned that instead of "Lady Mondegreen" it was "laid him on the green."

She then began to collect similar mishearings and in 1954 published an article about them, and coined the word "Mondegreen."

Thirty years after her death, a columnist in San Francisco discovered the term, and released it into the wild.

"Later on we'll perspire
As we dream by the fire..."

I like these two, always made me laugh.

Blinded by the light
Held up like a loofah by the foreman of the night
I'd like ta douche, my Sharonna of the night
Correct Lyrics:
Blinded by the light Wrapped up like a deuce another runner in the night

Smoke on the water
Slow motion walter, fire engine guy
Correct Lyrics:
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky
