@snood,
Hi, Snood.

Mmm, does anyone remember the years when cool was a cool word and then the years when it was rarely used.. and then the years when it came back into common usage? Maybe this just happened in California, but I remember those kind of transitions, just not the timing of them.

@ossobuco,
As far as us Bostonians and many urban northeasterners around college-age and just beyond, California set the trends...at least as far as clothing/fashion, young people's slang, music...and speech patterns. That was how I recall that it was in '60s and '70s. UK did to a degree, as well.

I recall a recent hip lingo phrase, "that's sick". Took me aback a few times 'til i figured it out.

Drugs were the fly in the ointment of the hippy crowd.
I looked at the "alternative community" scene years ago with a view to joining one; the Rainbow Tribe in their 'Tipi Valley' looked good on paper, but when I visited their wigwams in Wales in a beautiful remote valley on a gorgeous summers day, they were all holed up inside high as kites.
What an insult to nature, as if they were saying "The world is not enough for us, we gotta have our drugs".
I got back on my bike after just 10 minutes..Wink

I was on the fringe of hippie-ness, in those days. Didn't do drugs and too much of a loner to live like that. I was into anti war and civil rights.
