Who painted this painting of Pan and Syrinx?
I did some search...
I looked at some of the paintings from the followings artists but, could not find it.
Peter Paul Rubens
Adolphe William Bouguereau
Nicolas Poussin
Giovanni Bellini
I searched with the following words
Satyr and Nymph
Pan and Nymph
Pan and Syrinx
Pan
Satyr
And, still nothing
I saw one by Pierre Paul Rubens which is painted in a similar style so thought it may be him.
rubens? no....
pic is too small to see details...
I have not seen this painting before, yet it is possible that it is a gustav klimt painting.... the style would match....the woman definitely...yet, detail view of a section of the painting could confirm this.

r u sure the name
of the painting is accurate?
Pan and Syrinx is a painting by Francois Boucher....but it sure is not the one pictured???
Definitely not Rubens. Go look at his actual paintings MG.
Hundreds of artists have done paintings and illustrations of Pan.
It's either late 19th century or early 20th. Looks more like book print or watercolor. I would be surprised if it was by someone well known, looks like in house book art. Based on the body structures I would say it's someone who flunked life drawing, but I could be wrong.

I found this image in a site from the UK, and it belonged to a Pastor who likes pagan poetry, and images.
I sent him an email asking for the name of the artist of this painting but, he said he did not save the name. He also said he found the image on the net. I have been looking for a while, and cannot find it on the net.
I like this particular painting because it shows the nymph turning into reeds. None of the other artist show this particular part of the story of Pan and Syrinx.
Pan and Syrinx
by Lewis Gidley
The nymph Syrinx ran
From Goat-footed Pan,
Who sought the coy beauty to gain;
Through grove, over lawn,
Like a startled fawn,
In the haunts of the shepherd swain.
Her long yellow hair,
From her forehead flair;
Stream'd back, as she hasten'd her flight,
Like a cloud that flies
Through the wind-swept skies,
or a swift comet's trail of light.
Large heat-drops bedew'd
Her brow, when the flood
Of Ladon she reach'd, which arrested,
With its silver sheet,
Her uncertain feet
Whose, speed so rudely been tested.
On each Naiad sister
She call'd, to assist her,
Thus asking them succor to give her;
"O grant me escape,
"By changing my shape,
"Ye Nymphs of the fountain and river!"
They heard, and the prize
Was snatch'd from the eyes
Of Pan, at the end of the race;
For, greatly dismay'd,
He seized not the maid,
But only some reeds in her place.
"Ah, cheat!" then he cried;
But the reeds replied,
With murmurs, reproving his error;
And still as they trembled,
Their shaking resembled
The shuddering emotion of terror.
But some consolation,
To soothe his vexation,
Pan found in a pipe which he made
Of the reeds, to blow
On whose wax-join'd row,
Was his solace in grot and glade.
Not Rubens, are you all kidding? It's Maxwell Parish era.

Check my first post Osso, we are in agreement. I was posting the pic for Material Girl.
Randall, did you do a Google image search keying in something like Pan or Satyr with nymph?

I also looked in the era (the years from birth to death) of Maxwell Parish. It was around 18something-19something, can't remember just now.
I think its Edmund Dulac, Pan and Syrinx painted in 1935
@lorely,
That looks right, lorely, and the original poster's image is probably flipped...
