I've run across the reference quite a bit in SF. Put electrodes on your eyes, and one on the back of your neck, trickle a bit of electricity and four hours later you're refreshed.

Now, I'm not big on trickling electricity through my brain, but surely someones researched this....

I thought there'd be a similarity with Roulette and Russian Roulette. But htis is interesting nonetheless. I heard (on the radio I think) that if you expose the part of your body oppositely behind your knees and elbows (if that makes sense) to intense light, you sleep better.

So you have to trickle the electricity for 4hrs? Why not just take a nap in that time?

Four hours was supposed to equal a full night's sleep.

The Soviet Union made the claims about the device in the late '60s. US and European doctors were apparently unable to duplicate the results.

Cold war hoax to cause the West to waste resources?

The Russians often confused Scientific Fact and The Glory of Mother Russia. Look at Lysenko.

Of course in the Free West we would never distort science for political propaganda.
