So, on the walls and table tops of her house we have some favorites.

First, this is her last fairy-princess drawing. It was done in march of 05, when she was ......(doing math)..... 5.5 years old. I love the rainbow of flying fairies.

Around the same time she made the following drawing after a trip to Ireland, the composition and style is cool. It's framed - glare.

As I said at the outset, she focuses on faces and portraits. She seemingly draws the same face over and over, sort of the way I drew witch faces, with big pointy chins and hooked noses. This was a bit of a diversion, nice sketch done in the last 8 months..... (yep, that's the artist)

She made this little plasti-clay (not sure what kind exactly, maybe fimo) bat for a research project (first grade) last May.

I admit when I saw the title of this thread I thought: Awww the proud auntie is showing off some crayon stick figures" - OK i was wrong. She really has an excellent sense of line work, character expression and dimension. I agree with Farmerman about putting aside the computer in favor of the more hands on creations. I've gotten lazy using the computer to do graphic work and my drawing abilities are not as good as they once were because of it. It's like using a spellcheck instead of really learning to spell.
Bravo littleDaVinci! I look forward to seeing more.

The computer thing was a one-time deal. We were just killing time. Here are two of them anyway - from this time last year:

I like the look in the face of this sketch you showed (the picture with the artist on it). Especially the expression around the mouth.

So, Silvi (8 y.o., second grade) had two pieces in a town art show. All students work at the same lesson, but somehow she takes the creativity a step farther, like others in the show. First is the dragon. It is roasting geese.

She also did a plaster figure. The first step was drawing stick figures showing movement (dunno how she got to one with no movement). Then you create one of your figures in pipe cleaners. Then papier mache, then plaster on gauze. Finally it is painted.

She is good. The art teacher looked all impressed that I was her aunt. She is a great artist in a school with a high degree of great artists (rich kids with private lessons).

I've never come across the idea of a dragon spewing fire to barbecue. When I just saw it in Silvia's picture, it gave me a "duh" moment. It seems so obvious in hindsight: How could dragons not use such a convenient method of cooking their food? But she seems to be the first who actually did think about it. I'm impressed.

And the posture of that dead goose in the fire looks strikingly realistic. Wow.

Not recently. Is it a common theme in fantasy novels?

Dragons are called on to cook dinner often enough in fantasy world. They're sort of the obvious barbeque chefs.

(it's happened in some animated movies in the past few(several?more?) years as well. hafta ask Set, he'd remember the exact scenes)

(there is also at least one kiddie cookbook that has a dragon as the cook)

ahhhhhh
here it is

~~~
I believe there's also a dragon brand bbq.
~~~

None of that detracts from Silvi's great work. She's onto a popular theme - and given it her own twist.
